Dustin Therrien. AKA: D-Man, Big Boss Man, Dust. whatever you do, don’t call him Justin, hails from Constance Bay so he’s familiar with the area. Some of his former school teachers frequent the pub, so if you need a bit of insight into Dustin, just ask those who know him.
He went on to travel North and South America in his late teens early twenties and ended himself up in Dawson City, Yukon and for eight years he led crews and fought fires in the Yukon wild.
But this is what he was born to do! The man can talk the ear off an elephant. He’s ambitious, a creative genius and loves people! He also has a natural propensity for collecting junk…just ask Crystal.
Crystal Therrien (nee Hughes) AKA: Crissy Poo, Cruella originates from Victoria, BC. where travels in Europe and the desire for new adventures found her in Dawson City as well. There she met a man who tricked her in to a motorcycle trip to Mexico and instead of heading back to the Northwest, she found herself back in Dustin’s neck of the woods, Ontario to be the balance of all the chaos Dustin creates. and to struggle daily with Dustin’s junk addiction.
Now with two children, and a pub the have basically sealed the deal.
In September 2000, Dustin came to work as a bartender at The Cheshire Cat Pub and Crystal started a soap making company from their home in Fitzroy Harbour and also came to work part time at the pub.
In June, 2002 they married and at this time Dustin had become the manager of The Cheshire Cat. 2004 brought their daughter Arlo Lily in to their lives.
At this time their roots were being set. When the pub came for sale early 2005, they knew they had to make the leap…after all, what was there to lose? The Cat was already such a part of their lives, as were the people. It was a natural transition.
In May, 2005 Dustin and Crystal became the proud, and excited new owners of The Cheshire Cat.
In 5 years many changes have come. Business has grown, and so has their family. Deacon Danger was born in 2006, and life has never been the same or as busy!
There is a lot of excitement at the pub these days. A major kitchen addition is in the works, and the buzz about it is contagious. We consider ourselves a “hub”. The Cat is a meeting place and you will soon realize it when you walk in the door.
The ingredients we use, such as Fitzroy Harbour beef, Senior Farms lamb and eggs, Hudson Farms pork and corn, focus on our commitment to support our local farmers. We also have our own garden which produces many of the ingredients featured throughout our menu! Our desserts are locally made, as is our bread. We compost, we use biodegradable take-out packaging, and all of our outside lighting is powered with solar. These are just a few examples of how we try to stand out from the rest.
With our current renovations happening we are expecting to be able to improve upon everything we already do…just with more efficiency and a happier staff!
Our motto remains the same: always give the customers the kind of food and service that you yourself would want to receive when you go out. Welcome to The Cheshire Cat Pub! If you’re not already a regular, you will be soon!
